Riverbank Showman

It is not often that a pony of this calibre hits the market. Showman is only for sale due to his elderly owner no longer being able to look after him.  Showman was purchased as a rising 3 year old for the sole purpose of becoming a harness pony.   After breaking to harness he attended harness driving meetings on a regular basis, however he has not been in harness now for approximately 18 months so would need to be brought back in slowly if this is what you would like to do with him.  He has never been shown in harness.  At the request of his owner, his sale was delayed so that he could be broken to saddle to ensure that he gets the best possible chance at finding his perfect home.

He has been brought along slowly by Miranda Lee and have discovered that he is very sensitive in the mouth and so will be sold with his bit and driving bit to ensure his comfort.  Showman has made great process in accepting  contact with the bit but he will not accept force and has been known to rear if this occurs.  Mannie will also display bad behaviour if in pain.  So, if you have heavy hands or rely on the bit for balance, this is not the pony for you.  He has all his paces under control though could still do with a bit of refining.  He is picking up leg aids very quickly. He is responsive to voice commands.  He has been ridden in the arena, large paddocks and out on trail rides in company and on his own.  He requires regular work as he can get fresh but does not require working down even if left for a week.  Initially when you first mount he can be fresh but settles into work very quickly.  He seeks continual stimulation so he is suited to someone who will provide him with a varying variety of education/rides, be it circle work (arena or paddock) or trail rides (which he loves) as he can become quickly bored.  He is not the type of pony who will be happy going around and around in circles on a daily basis.

Showman has had very limited exposure to the show world and have discovered he finds this a bit overwhelming at the moment and becomes extremely vocal, but given time and exposure he will adapt and take it all in his stride. He is a loving pony and runs to you to be caught.  He is quite brave and inquisitive with strange items (and other horses) wanting to go up and investigate. On the very rare occasion that he has shied it is a small jump to the side or will stand still, he does not turn and run like many horses can do.  He has been exposed to dogs, cattle, cats, cars, tractors, Quad bikes. But has had very little exposure to younger children but what exposure he has had, he has shown himself to be his usual gentle self.   However, on arrival here he did test us and tried to be a bit pushy, so he may be inclined to test his new owner and reacts to a growl.

So, if you are an experienced rider looking for that pony with all the bling, that gives you the opportunity to catch the judges eye in the ring and have soft hands and willing to put in a bit of extra work then this is the pony for you.  With the right training this pony has the potential to achieve high levels in whatever discipline you desire.
